Colin Munroe

On my endless search for new music I came along an artist who will surely become a big name. Towards the beginnig of 2008 Colin Munroe released a remix of Kanye West',Flashing Lights, and lit up blogs which called attention to his talent. Born just outside Ottawa, Munroe emmersed himself in music at a young age, teaching himself to play the drums, the guitar, and the piano. For a while he produced songs for hip-hop artist, before finally deciding to release a mix tape in late 2008 called,Colin Munroe is the Unsung Hero. You can definately tell he's got a style of his own, and plays whatever so ever comes into his head. His songs are a mix of Hip-Hop, R&B, and Pop. For some Unsung Hero, had too much genre hopping, but for me that makes me love it even more. He's definately differnet, and produces no lack of radio worthy songs, breezy, feel good songs. Colin Munroe is definately someone worth checking up on.

Download :Will I Stay Remix
This is the first song I heard by Colin Munroe, and the reason I decided to look up more of him. Featuring Wale and Dallas Austin. So catchy. So good.

Download : Bittersweet by Wale Feat. Colin Munroe
This song isn't Munroe's but features it him. As you can maybe tell from it's title it samples The Verves, Bittersweet Symphony, and luckily, unlike alot some hip-hop songs it doesn't make me hate the original. Wale and Munroe are great together and they make this song work.

In The Unlikey Event

I have been a big fan of Fall of Troy ever since the first time I saw them live. That year I saw all the shows they did in Chicago, which was about three, that was four years ago and I haven't seen them since then. When I heard they were coming out with a new CD,'In the Unlikely Event', I was beyond excited to hear it. My favorite CD of theirs was definitely Doppelganger, which was their second full length album debuting in 2005. I wasn't a big fan however of their third album,Manipulator, and I was hoping this could redeem them. They didn't though. I was dissapointed in the album. Fall of Troy is a band who goes and says 'were making what we want,' and indeed they do. They mix sounds and constantly change up styles, which is not a bad thing, but with 'In the Unlikely Event' they seem to have lost their touch. If I had to pick a song from the CD, it would be the first track, 'Panic Attack.' I only hope that The Fall Of Troy will go back to the studio, and bring us their old lyrics and riffs.

Blog Pitch

It’s pretty hard to find a blog encompassing all types of music, and rightly so because that blogger would have to be putting up posts non stop just to cover all the new bands and CD’s coming out. I will however try my best to cover as much of music as possible. I will be focusing more on punk, pop-punk, indie, and hardcore, but I am a true blue lover of most modern music. That is how I’m going to try and be different from these other blogs, which focus on a single type of music. Even though I won’t get in as much on that much of a single type of music as a specified blog, I will try to get in equal posts about all the music I listen to. I will also try to include in my blog small local bands. Some of these will probably be bands I heard in Chicago, as I am more familiar with the local scene there. I will however try and find new talents from around where I’m living now. Kitchener. If I can I will provide reviews of shows and venues. I’m hoping to review at least a couple CD’s every time I update, and pick the best from each of them. I also plan on putting up links to bands myspaces, where people can listen to their music. Depending on how often I update, I will pick out a specific song, album, and band as my pick of the day or week. I am going to try to put songs themselves on the posts, and If I cannot then I will at least posts links to the songs. The same with albums and bands, I will try to put a picture of the album and band with the accompanying posts. I start listening to any album and song with no prejudice about the type of music and sometimes with no previous knowledge of the band; so I will try to give my honest opinion about the album from the point of view as just a listener, not as a person who favors hip-hop or rock. These are three blogs which I found fun to read, two are specific punk, hardcore blogs, and one is a more general music blog.
